Beautifully hand-woven silk-cotton blend pillow with traditional ikat motifs – ivory with saffron spheres and ivory piping. Usmani refers to the ancient Usman dynasty of Central Asia.
The Uzbek term for 'ikat' is 'abrband' meaning literally 'tying a cloud'. It is one of the oldest and most elaborate forms of textile design. Each thread is dyed with a pattern before it is woven, using natural dyes made from traditional materials such as pomegranate and saffron. The threads are hand-woven into beautiful patterns and motifs traditional to the Fergana Valley of Uzbekistan. The textiles are sewn into luxurious pillows and tea cozies by the women of Haween Enterprise, an organization empowering immigrant women in Canada. All fabrics are 50% silk and 50% cotton, handmade with natural dyes. Dry clean only. Down feather pillow insert is
included. Colors may vary slightly.
